Adipose tissue constitutes the large majority of tissue in the area of interest for fat removal. Adipose cells typically are large diameter cells (100-200 microns) with thin cell membranes. Other tissues (collagen structures, blood vessels, nerves, etc.) constitute a much smaller percentage of the tissue matrix and are formed with smaller, more structured cells. These smaller diameter cells are much more resistant to fragmentation than the larger diameter adipose cells. A good analogy is a water balloon. A small water balloon is more difficult to break, whereas a water balloon that is 10 times the diameter of the small balloon can be broken very easily.
